Verdun Run

Cars on the run

REPORT – MID-WEEK RUN TO VERDUN – 3 JULY 2019

We picked a very pleasant winters day for this drive in a roundabout way to Verdun.

Lots of green pastures along the way over the hills to Ashbourne and then the challenging drive up the Bull Creek Road to Meadows where we had a brief stop at the bakery, lovely, then a slight re-trace of our run over to Macclesfield and then left and along the Strathalbyn Road through Echunga towards Mylor but just before we turned right along River Road and left just past Hahndorf Fruit Barn and around to the start of the Onkaparinga Valley Highway into Verdun.

There were 17 of us today; Ian & Marylyn Bell – Valiant V8; David & Penny Leonard plus their son – Ford; Roy Shelton & Carmel Chell in their lovely Black & yellow Daimler saloon; Ken & Loraine Winen plus their very well behaved twin grandchildren all fitted into the Jaguar; Jan & I in the MGC; Bob Seller in his Mercedes; Paul Maloney also in his Mercedes; Karleen Vandernakker in her Toyota; Peter Barreau in his Austin Healey BJ8;and Doug & Vivienne Hill in their little VW convertible.

While there were no complaints initially I felt that the meals were on the small size even given that we had the seniors menu and the cost of the wines was too expensive compared to other venues we had been to recently. However we chatted quite happily before the relatively short return drive home.
